The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, recently led several critical discussions about the laws and bills during the sitting of the national assembly on April 4, 2023. The members of the differently-abled community of St Kitts and Nevis were also present at the event. During the sitting of the national assembly, members of St Kitts and Nevis parliament discussed several important issues of national importance.
Dr Drew shared several glimpses of the event on his social media account. He asserted that he was honoured to have recieved the members of the deaf and hearing-impaired community to the sitting of the national assembly. The Prime Minister also noted that welcoming the members of the deaf and hearing-impaired community was a part of the government’s plan to improve inclusivity in the government.
The members of the differently abled community, especially the deaf and the hearing-impaired community of St Kitts and Nevis feel excluded from several crucial announcements of national importance, which is to say they are not given a clear and precise account of the developments in the country. They communicated these issues with Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew
The administration of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party acknowledges this limitation of the community and is working diligently to sort out the issues that the community faces. In line with this, Dr Terrance Drew shared on his social media that The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration will continue to ensure that all citizens and residents of our beloved Federation are afforded equal access to information, especially as it pertains to matters of national importance.
Meanwhile, The parliamentary sitting of St Kitts and Nevis was also broadcasted with a sign language translation for the better understanding and inclusion of the deaf and hearing impaired community. This practice started with the Press conference that Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew and his Cabinet Ministers. The press conference was hosted on March 30, 2023.
