Douglas Wattley, former chairman of Dr Timothy Harris’ Peoples Labour Party (PLP), is crediting former Prime Minister the Rt Hon Dr Denzil L Douglas with “doing a lot to build St Kitts and Nevis and more than any leader in any period of time regarding the sustainable development of St Kitts and Nevis.”

Wattley told listeners to a Special Edition of “The Rebuttal” on Sunday night,that the projects that the present Harris-led Team Unity can talk about are those projects either started by the Labour Party or projects that were left by Labour such as the second cruise pier to be completed.”

“Labour did things. Labour did productive things, Labour did things that spread the wealth throughout the country,” said Wattley, who named over 50 projects initiated by Dr Douglas during the 20 years the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party was in government “to show why the Labour economy was better than the Team Unity economy.”

He listed (1) – EC$35 million expansion of the J N France General Hospital; (2) – implementation of the Emergency Management Services (EMS); (3) – the new Pogson Medical Centre in Sandy Point; (4) – the new Newton Dental Clinic; (5) – the Visiting Cuban doctors programme; (6) – the expansion of the Cayon Health Center; (7) – new Old Road Primary School; (8) – the new Saddlers Secondary School; (9) – the new Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFB); (10) – the St Kitts Marriott and Royal Beach Casino; (11) – the Park Hyatt St Kitts; (12) – Koi Resort; (13) – Ramada St Kitts; (14) – Music Festival; (15) – the Warner Park Football Stadium; (16) – the Warner Park Cricket Stadium; (17) – Kim Collins Athletics Stadium; (18) – Christophe Harbour; (19) – The development of The Strip at Frigate Bay; (20) – The People Empowerment Programme (PEP); (21) – The Short-Term Work Experience Programme (STWEP); (22) – 1,000 low-income and middle-income homes for each of the four term in office; (23) – The Eco-Tourism Park; (24) – The Island Main Road; (25) – The Basseterre Ferry Terminal and Bus Stop; (26) – The expansion of the St Kitts-Nevis Defence Force and Coast Guard; (27) – The Ross Nursing School; (28) – The Angelus; (29) – The Children’s Play Ground; (30) – Cayon High School Expansion; (31) – The Cayon Primary School; (32) – The E St John Payne Social Security Annex; (33) – The new Development Bank of St Kitts and Nevis; (34) – The new St Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank; (35) – Conaree Community Center; (36) – Cayon Community Center; (37) – St Johnston Community Center; (38) – New Town Community Center; (39) – St Paul’s Community Center; (40) – McKnight Community Center; (41) Solid Waste Management (SWMC) headquarters; (42) – new Victoria Road Day Care and Pre-School); (43) – Old Road Community Center; (44) – Sandy Point Community Center; (45) New Town Fisheries Complex; (46)Old Road Fisheries Complex; (47) new Old Road Day Care Center; (48) – New Challengers Day Care Center; (49) – McKnight Day Care Center; (50) – St Paul’s Day Care and Pre-School; (51) – expansion of the Civil Servants insurance to include retirees; (52) – distribution of 5,000 lots of land; (53) – Greenhill Reservoir in Cayon; (53) – wells to supply water; and (54) – expansion of the Robert L Bradshaw International Airport.

Other projects undertaken by the Labour Administration of Dr Douglas include: The Kim Collins Highway Lighting, the Sandy Point to St Paul’s Solar Lighting project, the Solar Farm at the Robert Bradshaw Airport, the attraction of American Airlines, US Airways, Delta Airlines, Air Canada and British Airways to St Kitts, the Solar Farm on the road to Frigate Bay, The New Town Dental Clinic, The Marriott Residences, Christophe Harbour Marina, Saltplage, The Pavilion, Koi Sales Office, Silver Reef Resort and Residences, Kittitian Hill, Imperial Bay Golf & Beach Residences, St. Kitts Castle, Ocean Edge, Manor by the Sea, The Dolphinium at Bird Rock Beach Resort, Renovation of Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI), The Cappiisterre Farm, The rebuilding and reconstruction of the Port Zante cruise pier, the build out of the several shopping complexes at Port Zante, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine Research Center, Rendezvous Residences, Golden Rock Commercial Park, Montebello, T-Loft, St Christopher Club expansion, St Kitts Scenic Railway, Saddle Hill Adventure Park, the Tunnel at Timothy Hill, the private lounge at the airport, Delta Petroleum, paving of the road from the Southeast peninsula to the Kim Collins Highway, the stretch of road from the Bay Road via Sandown Road and Pond Road. the new Dieppe Bay Police Station and the Tabernacle Police Station.
