St Kitts and Nevis: In celebration of World Water Day on March 22, the Department of Water Services has planned a week of activities to make the public aware of water’s importance.
While appearing in the radio and television program “Working for You” on March 17, Cromwell Williams, hydrogeologist and acting water engineer, said the number of activities was limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The activities are planned around the COVID-19 protocols.
He said the Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richards, who is in charge of public infrastructure, including water, will open the week of activities on Saturday, March 20th.
On Sunday, March 21, the Department of Water Services will attend a Sandy point Methodist Church service with their colleagues in the Ministry.
The following Monday and Tuesday, 22 and 23 March respectively, will be designated as open days where aspects of the department’s head office at Needsmust will be on display.
“People from the public are invited to join us and see some of the things we do behind the scenes to ensure that water is produced and supplied to the public,” he said.
Williams said the department wants to share the issue of conservation with the public.
“We live on a small island; we have a limited amount of water,” he said. “As we continue to develop and expand, the demand for the limited supply of water increases. Therefore, it is essential that each of us understands that with each passing year, it becomes more important for us to conserve the water we have.’
On Wednesday, March 24, the department will be on Independence Square and provide information to the public. There will also be competition among the staff.
“They will demonstrate how they make the water connection in your premises,” he said. “We will also use the opportunity to collect information from our customers. We are moving with the technology, and we will soon give you the option to invoice electronically. We’ll probably want to receive your email so you can get your account online. ”
The department will also reload its website www.water.gov.kn as well as its Facebook page on Wednesday, 24 March.
