St Kitts and Nevis: The National Covid-19 Task Force reported two security breaches that have taken place over the past four days in a resort in Nevis that has been approved to offer guests a “vacation in place” quarantine option, allowing guests who test negative for Covid-19, allow on arrival to utilize the services and amenities of the resort without leaving the property.
Investigation into the matter revealed that the first of these two incidents took place on Thursday night and involved two (2) guests who left the resort’s premises illegally for approximately two (2) hours. The second security breach took place on Saturday morning after midnight and involved six (6) guests who also managed to leave the resort’s complex without authorization.
The general public is reminded that all eight (8) individuals have been removed from the resort and are now being housed until a room in the government’s quarantine site, while awaiting a trial before the magistrate on charges of violating the country’s quarantine to meet regulations.
In light of these successive safety violations, which are serious violations, the Task Team suspended the “vacation in place” instruction for the tour group at the resort until all matters have been fully investigated and satisfactory corrective measures to deal with safety breaches have been put in place.
As a result of these two security breaches, and the fact that the eight guests came into contact with a number of local individuals at a nightclub in Nevis, the Ministry of Health began an aggressive contact search.
This process will result in the quarantine and testing of individuals who may have been exposed to the eight guests of the resort, in an effort to control the spread of infection should any of the eight guests be positive for Covid-19.
The National Covid-19 Task Force remains vigilant to work with all government agencies to protect national borders, control the spread of infection, and enforce the Covid-19 (Prevention & Control) Act and its related statutory rules and orders ( SROs). ).
