In spite of claims of unity in the three-party PLP/CCM/PAM coalition, a staunch, but a disillusioned supporter of the People’s Action Movement is painting a picture of a power struggle by former PAM leader and the outgoing minister of tourism, Lindsay Grant to become prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis, but Clive Webster who managed Grant’s 2015 campaign said supporters who Grant have “insulted, humiliated and abandoned” are prepared to torpedo his re-election to the National Assembly on June 5.
Webster took to the airwaves Monday and told listeners to Kyss 102.5 FM that Grant although an un-performing parliamentary representative, is hungry to become prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis.
He read from a document prepared in 2018 of which copies were given to Leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) and deputy prime minister Shawn Richards, former prime minister and ex-PAM leader, Sir Kennedy Simmonds and prime minister Dr Timothy Harris.
Webster said the document goes to the very heart of the non-performance of Lindsay Grant and points out that a cross-section of Constituency #4, who are ardent and strong defenders of Mr Grant and PAM during the 2015 and prior general election campaigns “have been insulted, disrespected, humiliated, ostracized and abandoned by Mr Grant.”
“We are confident we are large enough in numbers to aid the security or denial to Mr Grant or any future PAM candidate the electoral seat of Constituency #4. We hope that good sense prevails that the latter does not become a reality. The party is bigger than Lindsay Grant and his selfish, stupid and uncontrollable desire for power and the need to be the next prime minister of this federation,” Webster read from the document.
He told listeners they should “not take that statement lightly. Lindsay Grant is hungry for power and has tried everything in his power to upset the apple cart. Lindsay Grant would not rest until or unless he could position himself in a leadership position to once more try to become prime minister of St Kitts,” said Webster, who continued: “a lot of us know it is not going to happen because a lot of us in four will ensure that we stop Lindsay Grant this election.”
In March, Webster was removed from the Challengers Community Centre by Assistant Commissioner Adolph Adams and Justin Soleyn, the personal security officer for Deputy Prime Minister and Political Leader of the PAM Shawn Richards after he attempted to ask questions at the government-sponsored meeting.
