With the “Ramada St. Kitts” progressing towards the opening, the resident of St Paul and Whitegate area are high on praise as they look forward to the positives changes the luxury hotel would make in the area.
The project was initiated during the regime of the former prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Denzil Douglas. On September 16, 2014, the groundbreaking ceremony was held in the presence of invited guests and hundreds of villagers of the surrounding area. On that day former PM Dr Douglas and Tourism Minister Richard Skerritt also participated in the groundbreaking ceremony. The September 16 is marked as National Heroes Day.
Bevis Hutchinson, who owns a small grocery store in St. Paul’s see the opening of the resort as an opportunity, he hopes with the opening of the resort new customers would come to the area. “I hope I will see new faces in my grocery store as a staff of a few hundred would be hired at the Ramada,” he added.
“The new resort would benefit the community economically as it has the potential to generate huge revenue. The resort will bring job opportunities for the locals especially youth and it would also create an opportunity to start-up businesses as a large number of foreign visitors are expected to visit continuously to the area,” he added.
Praising the development couple of elderly persons from St. Pauls’ said the resort would also create an opportunity for St Paul’s property owners as with the opening of the new resort there would be chances to give their properties on rent to the employees of the resort and their families. “There would be many officials of the resort from other areas who would like to move to the area as it would be convenient for them rather than covering long distance every day,” they added.
Newton ground resident Ruby said that opening of the Ramada resort would be very exciting as “I can go to breakfast, or dinner right here, down the road from our village, we don’t have to go to town, or Frigate Bay all the time. We will have options.”
The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party government of PM Dr Douglas approved the St Kitts Ramada Hotel in July 2014 with the vision for development in the White Gate area

The Caribbean Galaxy multi-million dollar Ramada Project involves building a top resort with first-rate apartments, garden villas and pool villas. It will also include a shopping plaza, business centre, beach club, and other amenities catering to entertainment, business, leisure, tourism and vacation.
