St Kitts and Nevis has taken a major step towards promoting global relations and stimulating financial development by formally becoming part of La Francophonie, an esteemed association consisting of 88 nations with member governments as well as observers who share French linguistics and uphold similar principles.
Dr Denzil Douglas, Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, has spearheaded a strategic decision that signals the dawn of a new era in foreign policy for the Federation.
The Carnival Secretariat has partnered with the Ministry of Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Environment, and others to organize a sustainable carnival. On December 22nd, 2023, this initiative was announced.

He stated that accession shows how geostrategic approaches can leverage rich history, culture, and soft power within Federation nations while also increasing business opportunities between Anglophone and Francophone nations, especially partnering businesses trading or interested investment which targets tourists from French-speaking areas such as Quebecor other parts based throughout Montreal thus matching together furthering connections through partnerships expanding various industry faces.
According to Dr Douglas, the significance of this accession has increased even more due to Britain’s recent withdrawal from the European Union (EU).
Dr Douglas emphasized the significance of Canada as a founding member of La Francophonie in terms of strengthening ties with long-standing partners like France. This is particularly relevant considering Britain’s departure from the European Union (EU) since vital decisions will always involve participating members.
The Foreign Minister Douglas stated that St. Kitts and Nevis is looking to enhance its diplomatic relations with France, considering their ongoing influence within the European Union.
According to Dr Douglas, France can now be relied upon as a larger sibling to amplify our views, issues and developmental requirements within the European Union. This partnership is critical for inter-island and multi-island collaborations in St. Kitts and Nevis, given its proximity to France’s borders.
La Francophonie, an influential network that encompasses over 1 billion individuals across five continents and includes 321 million Francophones, was established in Niger’s Niamey Conference on March 20th, 1970.
