Basseterre: This past weekend, St Kitts and Nevis recorded twenty-two (22) additional cases of COVID-19. These new cases are nationals of the country. The individuals are in isolation and are being watched.

These cases bring the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases to 209, with 195 cases for St. Kitts and 14 cases for Nevis. Note that 64 cases were fully recovered with no deaths. There are now one hundred and forty-five (145) active cases in the federation.

The Ministry of Health continues its robust contact search that began on Wednesday 19 May 2021, and will keep you informed as the situation unfolds. “We will broaden our web of contact detection and testing to identify all possible contacts. The goal is to break the transmission chains of the COVID-19 virus and contain this group of cases. The Ministry of Health wants to assure the public that all measures are taken to limit the spread of coronavirus,” said Health officials.

“We appeal to you to comply with the COVID-19 prevention and control measures. These include wearing a face mask, maintaining good hand hygiene, maintaining a physical distance of at least 6 feet from other people in public places, and avoiding crowds and events. These non-pharmaceutical measures work, and we encourage everyone to comply with them, especially at this time.”

“We remind you that the AstraZeneca / Oxford COVID-19 vaccine is our most important tool to fight this virus, and we urge you to come forward and be vaccinated. By being vaccinated, you are protecting not only yourself but also those who cannot be vaccinated, like all our school children.”

People were encouraged to empower themselves with the facts about the benefits of the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine and take this opportunity to be vaccinated. “You have access to the COVID-19 vaccine at any health center in St Kitts during this week Monday to Friday between 13:00 and 16:00 and any health center in Nevis during the week between 1:00 and 16:00.

Let us work together to maintain and protect the health and well – being of the people of the Federation.
