The Ministry of Health received an impressive donation of wheelchairs and other relevant medical equipment from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The donations were presented by the Cao Zhong Zhi Foundation during a brief ceremony on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the Joseph N France General Hospital.
Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Dr Terrance Drew gratefully accepted the donation. The donations included more than 87 wheelchairs, 36 toilet chairs, and 64 walkers. The donations will help improve patient mobility and care services at the Federation’s principal public health center. Also, other regional clinics located in some communities will significantly enhance their healthcare services.
During the ceremony, the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Federation of St Kitts, Michael Lin declared his hopes that together with the Minister of Health, and the Minister of Social Development and Constituency Empowerment, the items will benefit a large number of people through their distribution all over the twin island nation.
PM Drew reaffirms strong diplomatic ties between St Kitts & Nevis and Taiwan
In response, PM Drew reaffirmed the bilateral relations between the two countries. He said that Taiwan is an important development partner of St Kitts and Nevis.
PM Drew further expressed gratitude and appreciation to Taiwan and assured that the donation is highly needed for the people in the communities of his nation. He noted that Taiwan’s support for healthcare development in the federation is not just limited to this donation.
Formation of sub-committees between St Kitts & Nevis and Taiwan
In his address during the ceremony, PM Dr Terrance Drew also discussed the establishment of sub-committees between the JNF General Hospital and Taipei General Hospital. The purpose is to facilitate direct knowledge transfer, technology sharing, and mutual support between St Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan.
Prime Minister Drew also indicated that Taiwan remains at the forefront of the world of advanced medical development and technology. He concluded his address by thanking the Government of China (Taiwan) and the Cao Zhong Zhi Foundation for their continued support to the health and welfare of the people of St Kitts and Nevis.
