The Ministry of Sustainable Development of St Kitts and Nevis arranged a day full of activities for their employees during an all-day Employee Retreat.
The theme of the employee retreat was “Catching the vision of transformation for the Ministry of Sustainable Development.”
According to the Ministry of sustainable development officials, the employee retreat aimed to empower the employees to carry out their day-to-day mandate.
According to the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Sherilita “Shez” Dore-Tyson, the retreat was for the employees of the department to come together and refocus to regain the public’s confidence. The exercise aimed to re-establish the standards and transform the Ministry into what the people and government of St Kitts and Nevis intended.
She took the opportunity to remind the employees that the purpose of the Ministry was to specifically focus on guiding the government of St Kitts and Nevis in developing the economy, resources, and the environment.
In the words of PS Dore-Tyson, “Our Ministry has a very crucial responsibility, which is to ensure that the development of St Kitts and Nevis meets the needs of the present generations without compromising the needs of the future generations.”
She elaborated, “It is our individual and collective responsibility to ensure that our children can live in a nation that is socially safe a few decades from now. We must ensure that they live in a booming economy full of opportunities and an environment where the air we breathe is clean.”
During the retreat, the officials designed several sessions spaced throughout the day to re-educate the employees regarding their responsibilities, privileges and roles as civil servants.
Additionally, the officials and employees explored more intrapersonal skills through effective teamwork and networking sessions.
In the meantime, the Minister of Sustainable Development, Dr Joyelle Clarke, worked on lifting the spirit of the gathering. She noted that the Cabinet of Ministers would reflect on rendering long-service awards and promote employees based on their technical skills and experience, notwithstanding their not being degree-holders.
