St Kitts and Nevis:- The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities organised the Seniors Enrichment Programme. The Programme was held at the Black Rocks in Belle Bue.

The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilites also organised the second annual Kite Flying Event that attracted a number of seniors. On the Seniors Day Programme, the participants who participated in the activity crafted their kites. They were curious to fly these kites on the clear day in the twin island state .

Unfortunately, the bad winds stopped them from flying kites. Notably, the seniors were elated to be in each other’s company. The seniors enjoyed all the games, music and refreshments that the Ministry had organized.

The retired Principal, Viola Jacobs, attended such an event for the first time in her life. She was elated and grateful to have had the chance to attend such an event once in her lifetime.

She stated, “The event was a good, fun time, as seniors don’t get a chance to do many of the fun things that some of the younger people do.”

The Seniors Day Programme was attended by Jason King Pharaoh McClean Payne at short notice. He described all the enriching experiences he had while participating in the programme activities. He was thrilled to experience the kite flying activity.

In addition to it Jason added, “This event is a little entertainment. It brings back all the memories of my young age.” He said, “ I express gratitude to those who put this programme together so  that we can all come out. I think they are doing good, and it is good to remember the elderly because we all have put something into the system long ago, and so now we should be enjoying a little of what’s going on.”

Isalean Phillip, The Minister of State for Ageing highlighted that the government will come up with such events for the seniors.

Further she added, the government of St Kitts and Nevis aims at improving quality of lives for the senior citizens of the nation. The kite flying activity has proved to be the utmost fun for the seniors. She stated that this programme provided an opportunity for senior citizens to come forward and express themselves. The government promises to arrange such events and programmes in future to enrich their lives.
