St Kitts and Nevis had a ground-breaking ceremony earlier this week for the construction of a brand new state-of-the-art health centre in the St Peter’s parish.
This ceremony has come a few months after the Federation opened a new health centre, showing the government’s commitment towards improving healthcare systems across the dual island country.
According to the pledges which were made by the current Team Unity administration, the healthcare sector of St Kitts and Nevis would be made more resilient over the coming five years.
This would include a new general hospital, pathology laboratories, quarantine facilities and other high-quality medical services.
The country has also tackled the spread of the COVID-19 effectively with only 17 confirmed cases and zero deaths in the country so far.
Prime Minister Timothy Harris talked about the importance of investing in healthcare, especially amidst the pandemic at the ground-breaking ceremony.
Prime Minister Harris said that the country is being reminded every day that this is a challenging time in all of history and that the world is faced with one of the biggest crisis, pandemics which has ever been witnessed in more than the past 100 years, and yet in the face of it, the country has to find a way to move forward thoughtfully and carefully while being resilient and innovative in the context of a pandemic which has reordered the world and has also changed the stability of the world order.
