St. Kitts and Nevis: The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has launched Health Science Pre-Nursing Programme. The information of the launch was made by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew through his Facebook post.
The Health Science Pre-Nursing Programme was launched through the Government Press Release on July 16, 2024. The duration of the programme is of maximum 2 years.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew mentioned that the launch of this Programme is part of a plan that aims to strengthen the nursing profession.
The Programme is aimed at providing a learning environment that supports students’ academic growth and development while offering a path to smooth transition into the UWI-CFBC Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) Programme primarily, and the CFBC Enrolled Nursing Assistant (ENA) Programme.
Certain entry requirements have been laid down by the government and they are as follows:
- Have attended secondary school but did not attain any subjects in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination or at the General Certificate Examination (GCE) Ordinary Level.
OR
Have obtained passes in CSEC or General Certificate Examination (GCE) Ordinary Level or approved level in at least three subjects or more, however, subjects do not meet matriculation requirements.
- Be at least l6 years old at the time of admission to the programme.
- Submit to a personal interview and provide two letters of recommendation highlighting the applicant’s abilities, accomplishments, work ethics, potential for future success and suitability for the Pre-Nursing Programme.
- Applicants must submit the original and a copy of the following documents:
- a) original birth certificate or passport or certificate of citizenship b) original CSEC/GCE certificates or results slip if applicable c) provide a transcript of secondary or tertiary level education.
Some requirements for specially admitted students, UWI Campus, St Kitts:
- Students must have passed in English A and Mathematics at the CSEC level or an equivalent to be eligible to register as a Specially Admitted Student.
- Students can only register for two foundation courses in each semester. Students are eligible for exemption of nine credits toward the UWI-CFBC BSN programme.
A certificate of completion will be provided by the CFBC upon the completion of the Programme.
Additionally, the graduates who successfully complete the Pre-Nursing Programme are eligible to apply to UWI-CFBC BSN Programme or any other programme at the college.
