Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, who handles the responsibility for the Ministry of Health in the government of St Kitts and Nevis, recently shared glimpses from a significant ceremony commemorating Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week. The celebration is hosted from May 21 to May 27. The theme for the EMS Week is “Where Emergency Care Begins”.

The 2023 edition of the commemoration marks 49 years of celebrating emergency medical services personnel. The Emergency Medical Services team plays a significant role in safeguarding all people’s health, safety and well-being. The celebration began at Reformation Fellowship Church on Sunday, May 21, 2023. The Ministry of Health and Healthcare staff organized a church service in honour of the celebration.

Further, the celebration of EMS Week continued on Monday, May 21, 2023. The medical surgeon at the JNF General Hospital, Dr Joylette Woodley-Fasselle, was featured at Health Wise, a radio program on ZIZ Broadcasting Corporation, to celebrate Emergency Medical Services Week. She is also the President of the St. Kitts Nevis Medical and Dental Association and Head of EMS.

Meanwhile, the celebration carried on for the rest of the week with other radio interviews. On Tuesday, the EMS and the Traffic Department of St Kitts staff were featured in an interview with Winn FM. During the interview, they talked about the events slated for the celebration throughout the EMS week. The staff of the EMS further visited several primary and secondary schools in the federations.

These schools include, St. Pauls Primary School, Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary School, and Maurice Hillier Primary School, During the visit, the staff of the EMS taught the children about the significant rile that the staff of the emergency medical services in the country and how they aid the sick and injured people of the country. The school visits will continue on May 25, 2023 for the rest of the schools.
