Two cataract surgeries took place successfully at the Joseph N France (JNF) General Hospital in Basseterre. These surgeries took place on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 and marked the resumption of the eye surgeries in St Kitts and Nevis’s largest healthcare institution. More than 200 people from ST Kitts and Nevis were waiting for the resumption of the surgeries in the hospital. Skilled ophthalmologist Dr. Alina Crespo led the surgical team that performed the two procedures.
Meanwhile, the management of the biggest healthcare institution in the country, JNF General Hospital stated that they are proud to announce the development. The management stated that the resumption of the surgeries will lead to the pressure being taken off the healthcare system. Meanwhile, the other patients will also get improved access to the healthcare facilities.
The expertise of the ophthalmologist, Dr Alina Crespo and the state of the art tools and equipment that the government procured for the JNF General Hospital assisted in the procedure going seamlessly and becoming successful. The doctors believe that both cases will have positive results after the surgery. Nurse Thelesha Grodon assisted Doctor Crespo during the procedure.
The hospital suspended the practice of eye surgeries temporarily. The JNF General hospital stated that even though the suspension of eye surgeries was necessary, it has been a challenging time for our patients and their families. Accordingly, the Joseph N France General management expressed their utmost gratitude to the public for their understanding and patience during this period.
The management asserted that the unwavering support of the public has been invaluable. They added that the administration is thrilled to be back in action, delivering much-needed eye surgeries to those in need.
