The third Governor General of St Kitts and Nevis, Sir Edmund Wickham Lawrence was given a state funeral on October 2, 2024. He was accorded full state honors for his contributions to the development of the St Kitts and Nevis. His work for the development of the country was honoured by the people of the island nation who attended the state funeral which was attended in his honour at the Wesley Methodist Church.
The people of St Kitts and Nevis joined the family and loved ones of His Excellency Edmund Lawrence to pay their respects to the visionary leader for his lifelong service to the nation. The funeral service was attended by the the current and fifth Governor General of St Kitts and Nevis, Dame Marcella Liburd.
Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Terrance Drew also attended the event with the members of his cabinet. The officials and leaders of the Nevis Island Administration also attended the funeral service and paid their tributes to the late stalwart of the nation.
The representatives of the National Assembly were also present at the event to pay their respects. The whole state funeral was livestreamed for the people of the island so that anyone who is not able to attend can watch the proceedings from the confort of their homes while still being part of the event.
The former governor general of St Kitts and Nevis had a crucial role to play in shaping the financial landscape of St Kitts and Nevis. In a life spanning nine decades, Sir Edmund Wickham left a legacy of service and dedication.
He was a man of substance and had a life worth taking inspiration from. He is survived by his wife and children, who are mourning the loss of their beloved husband, father and friend
