The Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley, has taken to his social media account to extend heartfelt condolences to the government and people of India on the horrific train crash in Odisha on Friday, June 2, 2023. The three-way train collision resulted in the deaths of almost 300 individuals, and 1000 people were injured due to the crash.
The Premier of Nevis and leader of Nevis’s Concerned Citizens Movement stated in his condolatory message that the prayers of the island of Nevis continue to be with India’s people and government. He also extended his consolations to the families and loved ones of the nearly 300 people who did not survive the horrific three-rail crash.

The train crash is counted among the most unfortunate and devastating incidents. The accident occurred on Friday in the Balasore District of Odisha. The Coromandel Express collided with a freight train after the train was derailed from the main line.
As a result of the collision of the Coromandel Express with the goods train, 10 to 12 coaches fell on the opposite rail. Another train from the opposite railway track, the Howrah-bound Yesvantpur Express, collided with the derailed compartments of the Coromandel Express. At the time of the accident, Coromandel Express was going at 127km per hour.
The deadly collision has claimed several lives. Three to four coaches of the Yesvantpur Express also got derailed after the accident. The government of India has already started investigating the cause of the train crash. The Prime Minister, Railway Minister and several other prominent personalities have extended their profound sadness towards the accident’s severity.
The government of India has claimed that even though no monetary compensation is enough to match the grief of the families, they have announced the ex-gratia payments of 10 Lakh to the bereaved families of the accident victims
