The prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, will travel to the Bahamas for the US-Caribbean Leaders Meeting. During the said meeting, Dr Drew will meet the Vice President of the United States of America, Kamala Harris. The Prime Minister said he would meet the United States Vice President on June 8, 2023. The Vice President of the United States will host the meeting between the leaders of the US and the leaders of the Caribbean.
During the meeting, Dr Terrance Drew will interact with the leaders of the Caribbean, including the Prime Minister of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Philip Davis. He is currently the chairperson of the Caribbean Community and the co-host of the meeting between the Caribbean Leaders and the leaders of the US. The Vice President of the US met with several leaders of the Caribbean during April 2022, June 2022 and September 2022.
The meeting between the Caribbean leaders and Vice President Harris will build on these previous meetings with the leaders of the Caribbean. Meanwhile, the President of the United States administration, Joe Biden, is committed to advancing cooperation with the Caribbean. In line with this commitment, the US wants to pursue shared prosperity and security and recognise the common bonds and interests between the nations.
Dr Terrance Drew shared that during the meeting between the Caribbean leaders and the leaders of the US, they will come together to discuss several issues of national and international importance. The leaders will discuss the various steps to address the Climate Crisis issue. The update shared by the leaders stated that they plan to promote climate resilience and adaptation in the Caribbean region.
Meanwhile, the people of the Caribbean Community will work towards increasing energy security by increasing the use of clean energy in the region. The meeting, which Dr Terrance Drew will attend along with the other leaders of the Caribbean, aims to address the Climate Crisis 2030, launched by the Vice President and Caribbean leaders in Los Angeles at the Summit of the Americas. For this reason, they need to build on the partnership between the leaderships of the US and the Caribbean.
