PM Terrance Drew to be appointed chairperson of OECS during 42nd anniversary Celebration

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, was recently appointed as the chairperson of the OECS. He will assume the position of the chairperson during the 73rd meeting of the OECS Authority in St Kitts and Nevis. The development takes place ahead of the 42nd Anniversary of the OECS. The celebration of the 42nd Anniversary of the OECS will serve as the backdrop of the appointment of the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis as the chairperson.

In line with the appointment, major celebratory events of the OECS anniversary celebrations are also being held in St Kitts and Nevis. The Prime Minister will further deliver remarks at the opening ceremony of the OECS Authority meeting on Sunday, 18 June, 2023. The opening ceremony will begin at 5:00 PM at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Auditorium. The theme for the celebration is ‘Vision. Integration. Sustainability.

The prime minister of the country, Dr Terrance Drew and the incoming chairperson of the OECS will interact with the other members of the OECS regarding the various issues of importance, including regional integration, security, health, and renewable energy. Ahead of Dr Terrance Drew assuming the chairmanship of the organization, the country is playing host to various celebratory events of the OECS.

The OECS sub-regional grouping came into effect on 18 June 1981. The mission of The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States is to promote regional integration in the Eastern Caribbean. According to the OECS, Regional integration occurs when neighbouring countries sharing physical or cultural characteristics join forces to pursue similar goals. These goals imclude facilitating trade, exchanging resources, and solving problems collectively.

A Flag Raising Ceremony will take place right before the Opening Ceremony on Sunday June 18, 2023. The Flag Raising Ceremony will be hosted at the Zuliani Roundabout in Frigate Bay at 4:00 PM. Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas; Director General of the OECS, Dr Didacus Jules and Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), Timothy Antoine will be present at the ceremony.
