The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, took to his social media account to extend his heartfelt congratulations to the patriots who were honoured with a Companion of the Star of Merit and Medal of Honour, The investiture ceremony or bestowing the honour of the star of Merit and medal of honour were held on June 20, 2023.
The Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew expressed his pleasure that the government was able to host the Investiture Ceremony to celebrate the exceptional contributions of the honorees towards nation-building. He shared that being acknowledged for their contribution and dedication to nation-building is extremely praiseworthy.
In line with this, PM Terrance Drew shared that both the levels of acknowledgement, the Star of Merit and the Medal of Honour, represent the highest levels of recognition. He added that through these, the government acknowledges the honorees’ exemplary accomplishments, exceptional service, and positive societal influence.
The Medal of Honour is given to nationals for their outstanding and meritorious service to the nation. At the same time, The Companion of the Star of Merit is awarded for long and meritorious or loyal and devoted service to the nation.
Nineteen citizens of the country received the honour of the Star of Merit and Medal of Honour in the investiture ceremony. The ceremony was held at the government house in Basseterre.
The Star of Merit was presented to the following awardees,
- Eileen Grey: Education, Culture and Sports
- Dennis Richards: Education, Arts and Culture
- Wayland Vaughan, Lorraine Browne, Violet Jones-Mawnlawde and Dr Lincoln Carty: Education
- Sylvester Charles: Education, Music, Sports and Volunteerism;
- Maxwell Bass, Senior: Music and Security Services
- Nathan Esdaille and Elsie Mills: Education and Religion.
- Shirley Kelly: Nursing Education
- Lorna Ava Henry: Culture and the Arts
- Pastor Lincoln Connor: Nation-Building and Youth Development
- Clement ‘Juni’ Liburd for Broadcasting.
Meanwhile, The late Lloyd Lazar and Kenrick Georges were awarded posthumously for their contributions to Education and Sports & Arts and Music, respectively.
The following recipients were awarded the Medal of Honor:
- Mable Morton: Community Service and Entrepreneurship
- Clyde Richardson: Music and the Arts
- James ‘Mickey’ Frederick: Performing Arts and Culture.
