The incidents of gun violence in the country have increased in the federation in the last few days. In June, the country recorded over six incidents of gun violence have been recorded in the federation. To add to this worrisome statistic, the Police force of St Kitts and Nevis has started investigating a shooting incident in the Conaree community.
Fortunately, the incident did not result in anyone sustaining any injuries. However, this is the 2nd shooting incident in the federation. The first incident happened in the Gingerland community of Nevis on Sunday, June 18, 2023. The next most recent incident took place only a day later, on June 19 in the Conaree Community.
The police have shared that the criminal act was committed between 7:00 and 8:00 PM. The police have stated the preliminary investigations into the incident. The police officials have recognized the victim as Hance Lawrence of Conaree community.
According to the police reports, the victim entered his yard when several shots were fired. After becoming aware of the situation, the victim could escape into his home without sustaining any injury. Gun violence has taken a worrisome turn for the people of the country, who have started hearing of these incidents almost every day.
The Royal St Christopher and Nevis have opened an investigation into the incident. Accordingly, the Crime Scene Unit processed the Conaree area and the site of the crime. They also recovered twelve (12) spent bullet shells and two (2) warhead bullets. These and other items of evidential value were taken into Police custody. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the police officials have claimed that the general public will be kept appropriately abreast of its progress.
The investigation has been going on in this regard, for the police force has reiterated their commitment to dealing with these issues successfully. The police force is highly motivated and committed towards ensuring that all the members of the community can remain committed to the cause of protecting all the people of the community.
