Guyana: A 53-year-old businessman, Nigel Sumersal, a resident of the Wismar Housing Scheme in Linden in Region 10 (Upper Demerara- Berbice), in Guyana was shot multiple times on Friday, September 23, hours after he was involved in an argument with another person.

According to reports that the sources received from police officials, the businessman was allegedly involved in an argument with another person at around 7:00 PM on the evening of Friday. The other man, suspected to be the shooter, left the place after the argument while the businessman stayed at his shop.

Reportedly, at around 9:00 PM, on the same night, Sumersal heard several loud explosions, which he believed to be gunshots. When he went out to investigate the matter, he noticed the suspect on the street a short distance away from him, armed with a handgun and pointing the weapon in his direction.

The 53-year-old business owner stated that soon after, he fell because he got shot and felt as if something struck him, and he suffered a burning sensation in his body.

The victim, Sumersal, was shot once near his abdomen. The suspected shooter aimed three bullets at his right hand. The victim was rushed to the Mackenzie Hospital Complex in Linden, Guyana, where he had to undergo emergency surgery.

The Guyana Police Force officials have also reported that the victim is presently admitted to the hospital and is in stable condition after the surgery.

Furthermore, the Police force’s investigating detectives recovered two warheads and two suspected 9 mm spent shells from the crime scene.

Police officials are conducting a search operation to locate the suspect and arrest him for the crime he committed.

The victim will be discharged from the hospital after complete recovery, and the police officials will also keep an eye on him for a few days to ensure his safety.
