The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, recently addressed the nation on the first anniversary of his SKNLP-led administration coming into power. The Prime Minister, the leader of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, took the stage to extend his heartfelt gratitude to the nation’s people for extending support to his government.
Dr Drew stated that in just one year, the Labour Government took these Major Actions for the benefit of the people. The prime Minister recounted some of the most critical achievements that his administration clocked in during the year. The country’s opening is the first among the long list of these achievements.
Shortly after he assumed the office of the Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew consulted some experts regarding the usefulness of the restrictions associated with the Coronavirus or the Covid 19. The prime Minister decided to remove the limits and open the country. He believes that this decision helped save the country’s tourism sector.
The prime Minister added that his initiative of providing critical healthcare to children from financially weaker households had saved the life of 30+ Sick Children by Paying for Emergency Overseas Medical Care. The Prime Minister said they saved the lives of the children who needed critical lifesaving treatment.
The leadership of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party administration Introduced Free Tuition at CFBC for our Students. It was one of the first initiatives the Drew-led administration announced upon assuming office. They have also reduced Student Loans from 9% to 5% at Development Bank.
The Terrance Drew administration removed Import Duties on School Supplies and Set 2 Back-To-School VAT Days, Paid GAE Retired Workers their Well-Earned Gratuity, Paid Two Cash CBI Dividends to Nationals. The government has subsidized Electricity, Gas and Water to Save People Money, Brought Back Visa-Free Options to Travel to Canada.
The government was responsible for installing the first female governor-general in the country’s history. The administration led by Dr Terrance Drew committed to Building 2,400 Affordable Hurricane-Resilient Smart Homes in 4 Years.
Dr Drew stated that Passed 23 Laws strengthen Good Governance and Domestic Violence Protections. They filed the first Ever Declarations to the Integrity In Public Life Commission.
Talking about the developments in the tourism sectors, Dr Terrance Drew announced that they started collaborations with JetBlue, InterCaribbean and Caribbean Airlines to St Kitts.
The Prime Minister detailed several other initiatives they took during his tenure, including addressing the water situation, passing the Rastafari rights legislation and more. He reiterated his commitment to the welfare of the people of the country.
