St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew made a visit to Ottley’s to witness firsthand progress being made on a groundbreaking initiative to construct 20 climate-smart houses on Saturday, November 30th, 2024.
PM Drew shared the glimpses of his visit on his official social media account and noted his visit to Ottley’s was accompanied by Ambassador Leon Natta-Nelson and the leadership of East Coast Development where work has begun on 20 climate-smart houses.
He observed the significant impact of this housing project and highlighted that it is not only providing affordable housing for the people of St Kitts and Nevis but is also creating numerous job opportunities.
Prime Minister Drew extended gratitude to the Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley for his continued hard work. He also thanked National Housing Corporation (NHC), SKELEC, the Water Department, Sustainable Development, and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for their contributions.
The pictures shared by PM Drew give insights into how much work has been done at the site so far. According to the glimpses, the area for the foundation of the houses has been dug and markings have been made for the new houses to be constructed.
The construction of these twenty climate resilient houses began back in late October and the NHC authorities said that the houses will meet all the building code standards.
It is also to be noted that the Labour administration has taken over the office in August 2022, the National Housing Corporation has delivered 110 homes so far, with the new works underway.
Minister Hanley praised the NHC’s achievements, noting, “Facts speak for themselves. The commitment to delivering resilient homes remains unwavering, despite challenges.”
Notably, the Ottley project is one of the many government’s initiatives that showcases government’s commitment to redefine housing standards across St Kitts and Nevis.
