A staunch supporter of the co-ruling Peoples Action Movement (PAM) and Timothy Harris’ Team Unity coalition, has slammed the PAM political leader, Jonell Powell, for his plans to disenfranchise party supporters as well as Kittitians and Nevisians, who reside overseas and who are legitimately and legally on the current voters list.
“I am a PAM supporter, a strong PAM supporter, but I am telling you that you are talking crap, because it will mostly affect overseas voters. To put a requirement on voters to reside for six months that is where you all are really telling the overseas voters that you all do not want them, yet still telling overseas voters to support this and support that,” said the female caller to Powell during his appearance on Freedom 106.5 FM “Issues” programme.
The caller told Powell she has her home in Conaree and pays all the taxes annually, “yet you do not want me to come home and vote.”
“This is a party that I support strongly, but let me tell you, I love politics, but this (PAM) party has taught me a lesson. It really taught me a lesson about politicians. I have stopped and think about it, because if it was Denzil Douglas (Labour Party) in power and he was trying to do this, this (PAM) party that I support, would have been ranting and raving against it.”
She told Powell that his PAM party along with the PLP, CCM and other parties brought in their supporters by planes to vote in the 2015 and previous elections.
“I buy my ticket. I do not come down on PAM free flights,” she said.
The PAM supporter in the past has accused Dr Harris and his CCM/PLP/PAM coalition of dumping their voters who reside overseas and favouring the Hispanic community for political patriotism.
“I am tired of crooked, lying politicians who fool people when it is convenient to them. I am sick and tired of it,” she said.
“Mr Harris and others came to White Plains Road in New York and went down in a basement of the Mount Carmel Pentecostal Church and campaigned. They forget all that when they were down there in St Kitts and Nevis now, they are asking at press conferences ‘if it is fair for them to come down from White Plains Road in New York’. Give me a break. It is the same White Plains people you, Harris and Team Unity used in the last elections,” said the caller.
She has stated that she opposes a residency requirement.
“Our requirement is our birth certificate. That is our residency requirement. It is a birth certificate. We born in St. Kitts,” she said quickly pointing out that the Spanish residents who all of a sudden Harris and Team Unity are “hugging up and all the other people who ain’t born in St. Kitts, will soon have more rights than people who born in St. Kitts. Our requirement is our birth certificate. That is our requirement.”
