The Nevis Historical and Conservation Society was delighted with the official visit of the United States Ambassador to Barbados, and the Eastern Caribbean, Roger F. Nyhus last week.
Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by the Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley and several other delegations from the Organisation, who provided the ambassador with a brief overview of the building’s history and an update on the recent renovations.
These delegations include:
- NHCS Board President Richard Samuel Lupinacci
- Vice President Todd Miller
- Members Sylvester Meade
- Tee Liburd
- Gillian Hobson
As per the information, Ambassador Nyhus was accompanied by Tamara Shaya Hoffmann, Kwayne Sanchez, and Cierra Saylor from the U.S. Embassy Bridgetown.
He is an accomplished business and civic leader – and as a proud member of the Chinook Indian Nation, he is one of only a handful of Native American ambassadors in U.S. history.
His first stop in Nevis was at the historic and iconic Bath Hotel, which underwent emergency restoration by the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society – NHCS in 2023 with a grant from the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation, in cooperation with the Nevis Island Administration – NIA’s Ministry of Tourism Nevis.
Ambassador Nyhus’s second stop was at the NHCS museums in Charlestown, where the NHCS team and representatives met him and Gallery Supervisor Eliesel Ramirez Dorsett provided a brief introduction before he toured the Hamilton Museum and Gift Shop.
The NHCS was grateful for the meeting and looked forward to a long and fruitful relationship with the Ambassador. They were also hopeful for strengthening the already robust relations between the U.S. and Nevis in the future as well.

Notably, Ambassador Nyhus met the Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Denzil Douglas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier in the afternoon on Tuesday (February 13). He extended his honour to meet him and shared some glimpses of his meeting on his social media handle.
“The New Ambassador of the United States of America (USA) to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, His Excellency Roger Nyhus visited me at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier this afternoon,” Dr Douglas noted.
