The Nevis Water Department informed the residents of the island that some areas may experience an interruption in the water supply due to the extension of water rationing schedule to different areas at different time intervals due to maintenance work.
The officials have also said that there is a probability that few areas may also experience low water pressure or disruption at any scheduled time. It is to be noted that water can be delayed as well in some areas than its given time.
The water department has shared this update with the general public through their official social media handle (Facebook).
“The Nevis Water Department wishes to advise the general public that the current water rationing schedule has been extended to different parts of the island at different time intervals. Some areas may experience low water pressure and water services can be interrupted at any given time in any given area, also water can be delayed longer than the time expected,” the officials added.
Furthermore, the consumers are asked to be prepared for the upcoming situations and they are encouraged to practice all water conservation measures. The following are some of the measures which can be used during this time:
- Recycled water for lawns
- Monitoring water use in the homes
- Checks for leaks
- Don’t wash vehicles very often
- Use water wisely
- Water plants only early morning or after sunset
- Collect and reuse dishwater for flushing the toilet
- Reuse water from rinsing fruits and vegetables for watering the plants
- Collect and reuse laundry water for cleaning the floor washing the vehicle
One must monitor the usage of water especially when brushing teeth, taking baths, washing clothes, dishes and vehicles. The officials of the Nevis Water Department also apologised for the inconvenience cause to the residents due to an interruption in the water supply.
However, the maintenance work is critical to improve the overall quality of the water. The government is implementing every possible measure to provide an access to the water to every citizen.
