With the month of the elderly quickly concluding, the Social Services Seniors Recreation Group on Nevis took the opportunity to entertain patrons at the Nevis Performing Arts Centre (NEPAC).
The Nevis Island Administration celebrated October 2022 as the month of the elderly. During the month, the Nevis Island Association hosted several events to uplift and improved the lives of the older generation.
The Senior Citizens Division in the Nevis Island Administration’s Ministry of Social Services hosted an event under the theme Older Persons Deserve our Respect and Attention.’
The event organisers put the energetic seniors into three groups, St. Georges and St. John’s Group, the St. James Group.
The St. Paul’s and St. Thomas Group each came on stage and danced to the popular Jerusalema dance challenge tunes.
The NIA event was hosted on Thursday, October 27, in a night dubbed ‘Talent Explosion 2022’ featuring the Jerusalem Dancers Seniors Version’.
According to the Minister of youth, culture, Sports, Community Development and Telecommunications and Information in the NIA, Eric Evelyn, The seniors have a lot of talent, and they love to display their talent.
Further, he stated, We have an enthusiastic bunch of seniors on the island of Nevis, and they long and wait for something like this.”
Deputy Governor-General on Nevis, Hyleeta Liburd and Elmo Liburd, the attendants of the event at NEPAC. They also sat throughout the event, even as they met and mingled with members of the general public.
Minister Evelyn stated that he was delighted to see the Deputy Governor General, Hyleeta Liburd, and Mr Liburd in the audience at the event.
Minister Evelyn commended staff at the Seniors Division in the Social Services Department for organising a very successful entertaining event geared towards the general public, noting that the seniors and the individuals at NEPAC had fun.
