Minister of Public infrastructure for the Nevis Island Administration, Spencer H Brand was recently made aware about the flooding issues in the Brown Hill Area. The Island administration was made aware about the issues after the communities were hit by heavy rains during the previous week.
Minister of Public Infrastructure confirmed that several communities across Nevis have been facing this issue. The administration, however, has been working with teams to find a lasting solution for this issue.
Minister Brand highlighted that several communities face drainage issues in the event of heavy rains. Several families reported that they were facing constant flooding due to the rains.
The roads connecting the communities are extremely damaged due to the heavy rains. The Minister highlighted that the team is making sure the rehabilitation work can proceed smoothly.
Minister Spencer Brand noted that it is important for the leadership of the country to make sure that these crises are dealt with in a permanent manner. As such, he took the opportunity to take a tour of the Brown Hill area to gauge the extent of damage.
He shared a video from his visit and noted that “Government has been relentless in developing our infrastructure.” The video showed ongoing work on road construction and rehabilitation in Brown Hill Community.
Minister Spencer Brand noted that the rains tested the administration’s resilience. However, the ongoing work is being praised by both the Minister of Public Works in the NIA and the Premier of Nevis.
Premier Brantley, who has led the Nevis Island Administration for several years, appreciated the hard work and dedication of the public works department in helping communities avoid prolonged weather-related issues.
Premier Brantley took to his social media account to assert that he is delighted to see that the various arms of his administration are working hard to build Nevis back brick by brick.
The Premier appreciated the administration for developing the road infrastructure, water and electricity infrastructure. The Premier said that education and healthcare sectors of Nevis has also been on an upward trajectory under the able leadership of the NIA.
