Denzil Douglas- the Minister of Foreign Affairs in St Kitts and Nevis, reflected upon his visit to the World’s Largest Cruise, Icon of the Seas, last Tuesday. He recalled the development of Tourism sector and thanked Minister Marsha Henderson and her team for their contributions.
Minister Douglas took to his official social media handle earlier on Sunday to share his experience and extend his gratitude. He added, “Last Tuesday, January 30, like many others including Cabinet Colleagues, etc, I had the opportunity to tour the World’s Largest Cruise Ship, Icon of the Seas….”
He also especially thanked Minister Marsha Henderson and her Team and all others before her who helped in any way.
Further, realizing the nation’s moves towards expanding the economy and hospitality services, Minister Douglas said, “But, nothing feels better than seeing one’s VISION being realized. After the closure of the Sugar Industry in 2005, we set out as a Government to diversify the economy to one of hospitality services, etc.”
At last, he highlighted the achievements of the Tourism sector and said that St Kitts-Nevis was one of the last few Islands, to become a Tourism destination.
He also gave a huge shoutout to the Tourism sector, the Government of St Kitts and Nevis, and the people of the federation, adding, “But today, they are punching way above our weight. Kudos to our Minister & Ministry of Tourism, Kudos to our Federation, St. KittsNevis, Kudos to our People”, he noted.
Notably, the World’s largest Royal Caribbean, Icon of the Seas, docked at the shores of the Island on January 30. The Cruise was on a 7-day round trip to the Eastern Caribbean and departed on January 27 from Miami, Florida. The Cruise brought over 5000 cruise passengers onboard, who had the opportunity to indulge themselves in the captivating island of the Twin Islands.
Several leaders warmly welcomed the Cruise and extended their pride to host the significant celebration.
Recalling this achievement, Minister Douglas also emphasized that the federation does not have the resources like the larger countries, but they have the human capacity, natural beauty, and very hospitable people.
