The Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley, recently organized the March Edition of the monthly press conference at the Cabinet Room of the Nevis Island Administrations’ (NIA) on the 2nd Floor of the Social Security Building at Pinney’s Estate. The Premier provided significant updates about the issues of national importance in the country.
The media directed several important questions at the leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement, who currently heads the NIA. Premier Brantley provided several significant updates regarding the processes in Nevis. As a first order of business, Premier Brantkey provided an update regarding the geothermal plant in Nevis.
The CCM leader informed the media that the project is proceeding satisfactorily. They are looking forward to starting the bidding process for the drilling of the production well. The bidding was initially slated for March 9, 2023. However, the date had to be pushed forward by a month since the stakeholders of the bidding process had some concerns.
The Premier of Nevis asserted that it was their responsibility to address those concerns and clear any questions they might have. Premier Mark Brantley asserted that they would share prompt updates regarding the development after the bidding is complete. Meanwhile, he has called the geothermal project transformative to Nevis’s development.
The Premier of Nevis further shared that the NIA has decided to close the opposition leader’s office. Mark Brantley clarified that they reached this decision because the opposition’s two members could not agree on who would assume the office.
The leader of the NRP, Dr Janice Daniel-Hodge and the member of the Nevis Parliament, Cleone Stapleton-Simmonds, who the NRP suspended in February, cannot reach an agreement. Accordingly, Premier Mark Brantley noted that they are closing the office of the opposition till such a time that the confusion is cleared.
Premier Brantley asserted that both politicians believe they should be the leader of the opposition. However, the Nevisian Taxpayer cannot pay for two different offices of the opposition leader. He asserted that he stands here ready to resume the arrangement, provided that they present a thought-out solution for the issue in front of the NIA.
He further reiterated that the office is maintained due to the funds accrued by the taxpayers. Premier Mark Brantley also provided significant updates regarding other issues of national importance during the press interaction.
