Latoya Jones, who will be contesting the upcoming assembly elections of Nevis from Nevis’ constituency #5, St Thomas, has come forward on her official Facebook account. Recently, Latoya Jones announced her portfolio for her plans in the Nevis 5 if elected as a representative in the upcoming elections.
One of the sectors where the young politician, Latoya Jones had placed special emphasis was the development of small businesses. In a recent social media post, she has expanded upon her attention on the prosperity of small businesses.
In the post, she wrote that the best way to help our small businesses (no matter the type) is to help increase their sales.
She reasoned that with the help of more income, they are better positioned to pay their bills, expand, hire more employees, secure the future of their families and keep their businesses afloat for a long time.
In line with the same, Biyanca Jones revealed that she has supported our small enterprises in St Thomas. She added that her agenda for the elections outlines other ways she intends to help when elected to the Nevis Island Assembly.
In her Facebook post, she urged the public of her constituency to help her make this possible for our mom and pop shops especially. She urged them to Vote for her, Latoya Jones in the upcoming assembly elections slated for December 12, 2022.
Latoya Jones’s plans for the development of small businesses in the island include the following points of focus:
- We have to create a new mindset. Teach our people how to become employers and not just employees, (through the creation of small businesses)
- The government will give priority attention to programs that could help in the growth and development of our small businesses in the constituency
- She promises that she will lobby government to help facilitate small grants and low interest rates for loans to help our mom and pop shops meet their operating expenses, secure stocks, enhance their physical presence and advertising
- the constituents will also pursue a program of training in accounting, marketing, customer service and product development.
- the govvernment will create new jobs through small enterprise development in construction, retail shops, restaurants and bars, agriculture, tourist attractions, and other service sector areas.
- Special promotional activities, (like my On the Block initiative) will be considered to help generate sales and to promote our small enterprises nationally.
On November 24, 2022, the Leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement and the Present Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley, announced the dissolution of the Nevis Assembly on November 25, 2022.
The nomination day will be observed the next Monday, December 5, and the elections, the week after on December 12, 2022.
