St Kitts and Nevis: The Basseterre High School defeated Washington Archibald High School at the Finals of the Jones Group Limited Under 17 Football Competition held on Thursday. The team secured a total of four goals, leaving the opponent at nil.
According to the information, the match was played at Warner’s Park from 5:30 PM onwards. Despite Washington Archibald’s efforts and mishaps allowed Basseterre High to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Niguan Allen was named the most valuable player after scoring two goals against Archibald. The others, Akanye Samuel and Najarde Francis added each goal to place victory against the other team. The match ended at 4-0.
In addition, Cayon High School secured third place over Verchilds High School in the other final match of Jones Group Limited U17 Boys Football held on the same day from 4 PM. Despite the efforts from both teams, the match was a draw, resulting in a final match of 2-2. The winner of the game was decided based on penalty shootouts.
It is to be noted that Khamart Wattley and Franklyn Mitcham scored goals in regular play. While Nickeel Pemberton and Amarie Hughes displayed their brilliance to take victory and excel victory in the penalty shootouts.
Kevonte Phipps from Cayon High School for being named as the Most Valuable Player of the Match.
The St Kitts Department of Sports congratulated both teams for their incredible performances at the tournament and wished them all the luck for their future endeavours.
Notably, on Tuesday, February 27, the teams also competed in the Semi-Finals 1 and 2 of the Jones Group Limited Under 17 matches held at the Warner’s Park Stadium.
In the first match of the Semi-Finals, the Washington Archibald High School emerges victorious with a 2-1 win against Verchilds High School. In the Second match of the Semi-Finals held on Tuesday, Basseterre High School secured a 2-0 victory over Cayon High School, with Derrick Gumbs and Lyandre Williams finding the net. The Man of the Match for both respective matches were Zarque Bradshaw (WAHS) and Dequandre Liburd (CHS).
