On Friday, August 5, 2022, The federation of St Kitts and Nevis hosted the historical country-wide general elections, electing candidates for the eleven seats in the country’s national assembly. Out of eleven, the result for five constituencies had already been declared earlier.
The results for another three constituencies, Constituency #3, Constituency #5 and Constituency #9, have been declared as well.
From Constituency 3, St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) Candidate Konris Maynard managed to surpass his opposition candidates by a large margin. Maynard managed to secure a total of One thousand Seven hundred and Forty-Seven (1747) votes for his political party, St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party.
Two thousand seven hundred and sixty-seven (2767) valid votes were cast in Constituency three, out of which the winning candidate managed to secure 62.7% of the polls. Akilah Byron-Nisbett of the People’s Labour Party (PLP) secured a total of Seven hundred twenty (720) votes from the constituency, which accounted for about 25.8% of the valid votes.
On the other hand, Kervin Freeman managed to gather a total of three hundred (300) votes from the constituency accounting for about 10.8% of the total votes.
From Constituency 5, the leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM), Shawn K. Richards, managed to retain his place after being re-elected as the representative from the constituency for another term.
Shawn Richards is, so far, the only candidate elected from the People’s Action Movement. He secured One thousand twenty-five (1025) votes from the constituency, beating his SKNLP opponent with two hundred votes to spare.
Eligible voters cast two thousand and ninety-three (2093) valid votes in constituency 5, out of which 48.7% went to Shawn Richards’ account. St Kitts and Nevis Labour party candidate Kenneth Douglas managed to secure eight hundred and twenty-five (825) votes.
Stachio Williams of the People’s Labour Party gathered two hundred and forty-three (243) votes, accounting for about 11.5% of the total votes.
Finally, Mark Brantley of the Concerned Citizens Movement managed to get re-elected in Constituency #9; he secured a total of one thousand six hundred and eighty-five (1685) votes from the constituency. He surpassed Dr Patricia Bartlette, Candidate of the Nevis Reformation Party by four hundred and six (406) votes. She secured a total of one thousand two hundred and seventy-nine (1279) votes from the constituency.
With this win, Concerned Citizens Movement has captured all three of the seats in Nevis.
