The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Terrance Drew has announced that the employment registration in St Kitts and Nevis have increased by 11% under the St Kitts and Nevis Labour government. He made these remarks during the Press Conference, hosted under the theme: Powering Progress: Building a resilient future for all.
In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew was recounting all the developments that have taken place in the country. He recounted that the nation has been witnessing a surge in the number of employed youngsters in the country.
This 11 percent increase is proof that the St Kitts and Nevis administration is working in the right direction and getting youngsters ready for the employment market. Through initiatives and partnerships with local and international stakeholders, the government has increased opportunities for youngsters to get employment.
One other reason which can be attributed to the increase in employee registration is the fact that St Kitts and Nevis is employing a majority of the workforce for their development initiatives locally.
Much infrastructure development that is being taken up in the country is utilising local talents instead of hiring from outside. This means that more youngsters of St Kitts and Nevis are getting the opportunities that are due to them.
The Prime Minister talked about the National School Rehabilitation Programme in his National Address on July 7. There he noted that the development of the Joshua Obediah Primary School employs much of the workforce locally.
Similarly, the ongoing construction project at Basseterre High school is also using a majority of the local workforce. All these facts point to the dedication of the St Kitts and Nevis government towards ensuring that youngsters have access to opportunities.
Another proof of the government’s dedication to the development of the people comes in the fact that they continue to organise training initiatives. Recently, the government hosted an EV training to get people ready for the future, which lies in electronic vehicles.
The government of St Kitts and Nevis also organized Cyber security and Solar PV training, which will both be invaluable to the training participants. The trainings will make them more suitable for skill based Employment opportunities.
