The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education in the Government of St Kitts and Nevis, Geoffrey Hanley who handles the responsibility for the ministry of gender affairs, social development and Housing et al., recently took to his social media to share a critical update regarding the groundbreaking ceremony for the Cornerstone Housing Initiative.
The housing initiative is an important part of the Government’s mandate to provide “Affordable Housing” to the country’s people. The groundbreaking ceremony for the housing initiative was held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Douglas Estate. As per the update shared by the Minister of social development and gender affairs, the Government has contacted E&J Construction to serve as the contractor.
The team at E&J Construction will build 2 Bedrooms ad 1 Bathroom, 2 Bedrooms and 2 Bathrooms and 3 Bedrooms and 2 Bathrooms houses. As per Dr Geoffrey Hanley, the housing units will have the potential to implement smart features per the client’s need and ability to afford advanced technological features.
Dr Geoffrey Hanley, who is currently overlooking the progress of the project, asserted that First-time homeowners would also benefit from Government’s duty free concessions on materials, and successful candidates will receive mortgages at a low 5% from the Bank of Nevis.
Additionally, prospective homeowners can work closely with the Bank of Nevis to choose affordable designs and a financial strategy that works best for them. Dr Hanley expressed that as the Minister responsible for Housing, he was delighted to see this much-needed project kick off. He added that it was also my pleasure to congratulate Errol Williams, a son of the soil, the brainchild local Investor behind this great initiative.
He hoped, through this initiative, that other local investors would be inspired to spearhead similar initiatives that can bring relief to families. Meanwhile, Dr Geoffrey Hanley explained that the Construction of the first three homes would commence immediately. This ministry’s goal is to touch over 100 families as a result of this project.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister extended his gratitude to the Bank of Nevis for supporting this timely initiative, which aligns well with the housing revolution under a St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party-led Government.
