The Senior Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, Dr Denzil Douglas, is on a working visit to Argentina. This visit comes directly after he concluded a similar work visit to London, United Kingdom. During his visit to Argentina, Dr Douglas represented St Kitts and Nevis while participating in a bilateral meeting with Guatemala. The meeting took place on Monday, January 23, 2023.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas, took to his social media account to share the meeting update. He shared some images from the event. According to Dr Douglas, The bilateral meeting took place as a part of the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of CELAC at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Room in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Senior Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, Dr Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs et al. and his Counterpart, Mario Bucaro of Guatemala, held discussions on various issues.

These discussions included:

1) Preparations for the 1X ACS Summit. The government of Guatemala will play host to the participating countries in May.

2) Deepening relations between St Kitts, Nevis, and Guatemala through reciprocal waiver agreements.

3) Training for Government Officials, including Foreign Service Officers and Farmers.

4) Cultural Exchanges

5) Increasing Trade and Investment Opportunities for the countries. These include the sector of Tourism (Temporary movement of People)

6) Invitation to Guatemalan Officials and cultural Experts to our fortieth anniversary of Independence.

 

Both Ministers of Foreign Affairs pledged to continue discussions with their respective governments. Dr Denzil Douglas and Mario Bucaro promised to follow up on this meeting and talks. They planned to follow up with one another through future bilateral meetings. Through these meetings, they hope to achieve tangible outcomes.

During his work trip to Argentina, Senior Assistant Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Samuel Berridge, accompanied the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Douglas, to this Summit.
