Covid-19 is already costing the Nevis’ Four Seasons Resort millions of dollars and staff working hours are to be reduced.
“At a hastily convened meeting with senior staff this morning, it was revealed that the hotel had already lost $3 million from cancelled bookings,” Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) deputy political leader Kelvin Daly said.
He disclosed that in response to and in anticipation of greater losses on the horizon, a decision to cut staffing hours by up to 40% is to be implemented.
“As FSR goes, so goes the economy. With its myriad inter-connectivities with local businesses, the impact of a disruption of this magnitude has the potential to be much worse for workers and the Nevis Treasury than the temporary closure of 2019,” said Daly, who disclosed that Nevis Reformation Party is calling on him to Premier the Hon Mark Brantley “to reveal to the country his plans for dealing with this cŕisis. Surely, he must have anticipated this problem.”
“The NRP demands that workers be granted as a first step, immediate access to funds from the Poverty Alleviation Programme. Its our money too and we deserve better,” said Daly who also called on Premier Brantley “to cut his vacation short and return home immediately to deal with this crisis. It is high time he earns his $45k/ month salary.”
