Police Commissioner James Sutton urged the people of St Kitts And Nevis to stop destroying their future by entertaining homophobic crimes.
In his opening statement, he started by recalling an incident that took place On November 22, 2023, when the union of St Kitts and Nevis witnessed a horrific act of violence . The incident claimed the lives of two young men, Lequan James and Kevin Collins, and another, Kejaun Cannonier, sustained gunshot wounds.
”On behalf of the Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) and myself, I offer my sincere condolences to the families and friends of these young men. No parent imagines a future where they bury their child. The pain of such a loss will undoubtedly cut deep. We sincerely hope that all those grieving find their way to peace and healing. We lift you in our prayers at this time”. Said James Sutton
He emphasized that RSCNPF strongly condemns these acts of violence and the perpetrators who demand their continuation. Although it is often said that common sense no longer prevails, it is completely incomprehensible that these social aberrations have not yet realized that violence has never been and never will be a viable solution to humanity’s problems.
Extreme acts of violence are largely illogical, impractical and harmful to everyone, whether or not they are involved. The police continue to encourage people to learn to use non-violent means to resolve conflicts with each other. If the solution to a broken arm or leg is not automatic amputation of the limb, how can killing another person be the solution to simple disagreements and disputes?
James Sutton added, “As young people say, “math is not ‘math.’ if social deviants continue their stubborn refusal to do more and better, their divisive and destructive efforts will become the most legitimate strength of the RSCNPF”.
“That’s enough! As the highest law enforcement agency in the Federation, we are determined to protect law and order in St Kitts and Nevis. We will not play with the safety of our people and let some devilishly selfish and uncaring people relegate society’s existence to survival mode. It won’t happen! The Union of Kitts and Nevis is a democratic country. In a democracy, more wins with less. We Are More Than You: We, The Police, and the People. You can’t win, and WE will ensure you don’t.” Said James Sutton
The security plan for the 2023 Christmas and Carnival season is already underway. But apart from this plan, the RSCNPF is very active in the communities.
The sight of the youth lying dead in the streets does not attract or delight law-abiding people, so they have vowed to do whatever it takes to stop such criminal acts.
He hinted that these criminals consider nothing but their foolish revenge and selfish desires until they fall prey to society. As it is the duty, the RSCNPF will carry its mandate before the people without fear or favour.
He continued to encourage people with information about these and other criminal activities to come forward and speak about it.
It is worth remembering that there is always a monetary reward system for dispatch given to the police that leads to a successful conviction.
The maximum reward amount was recently increased to EC$25,000. The Citizens and the law enforcement each have a role in curbing crime in St. Kitts And Nevis.
RSCNPF and The Defense Force of Kitts and Nevis form one arm; the other hand consists of you people. One hand can’t clap. Crime and disease have one thing in common.
People of St Kitts And Nevis have been encouraged to speak up to secure their future and that of their children and family.
Finally, James Sutton closed his statement by saying, “Could you work with us for your benefit? Safety belongs to everyone; we all have to do our part to preserve it. We ask that the nation continue to pray for us as we step out daily to protect and serve.”
