It appears as if the authorities in the Timothy Harris-led Team Unity Government have manipulated the selection of individuals identified to perform the important role of Returning Officers and or Presiding Officers for the June 5, 2020, General Elections.
In a message over the weekend informing persons that they were not accepted to perform the roles, Supervisor of Elections Elvin Bailey said he is embarrassed their names were not accepted.
He had earlier indicated that their names were submitted as a recommendation of fit and proper persons and willing to serve, “but there was a glitch.”
“I’m awaiting a final decision as alternate persons are being put forward. Whatever the outcome, I will communicate asap. No delay this time. Meanwhile, please note my appreciation to you, all of you, for your response to the call for national service,” said Bailey, who once the replacements were made known to him, wrote to them.
“I prayed for a sugar-coated way to break this to you all, but there is none. I must tell all of you that none of you (except Nevis) were accepted as officers. A brand new set was,” Mr Bailey said in a Watsapp message.
“I must thank you, however for offering to work with me and to apologise for the embarrassment of the rejection. I too am embarrassed at the lack of confidence shown in me and my judgement. I will do the election, and I will do my best and then consider my options,” said Bailey, who added: “I will not disband the group yet and hope we can meet one more time over drinks.”
