Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew has announced that St Kitts and Nevis has procured 2 second hand ambulance units. The reason for this is to compensate for the delay in the supply off the brand-new ambulances which were due to arrive in the federation in 2025.
The ambulance vehicles have been delayed due to supply chain delays caused by the Russia Ukraine conflict. The Prime Minister, who handles the responsibility for the Ministry of Health, has been in touch with the suppliers.
He confirmed that he is getting all the updates from the TDC, and as per the latest update, five ambulances are expected to arrive at the island by November. Meanwhile, two ambulances have been commissioned to meet the needs of the people while the delayed ambulances can arrive.
The island nation was supposed to get these ambulances several months previously according to the timeline of the Drew led administration. However, due to international geopolitical circumstances, the delivery was delayed.
The Prime Minister informed the people of the island that the new ambulances are expected to arrive on the island soon. The Prime Minister as shared that the ambulance fleet is an important for the healthcare sector of the country.
He highlighted that he understands that the country needs the ambulances to deliver quality emergency healthcare. This is why two refurbished vehicles have been made available to the healthcare institutions across the island nation.
The opposition has raised questions on the ruling administration’s efforts to continue to deliver public welfare. Prime Minister has been working with the international partners to get updated on the status of the delivery.

In the absence of new vehicles, using refurbished old ambulances for the purpose of delivering emergency support to communities is a proof of Dr Terrance Drew and his team’s dedication.
