The “Nevis Culturama 52” festival was officially launched on Thursday evening at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park, with organisers confirming the two-week celebration will run from July 23 to August 4 at the Cultural Village in Charlestown.
This year the Nevis Cultrama 52 theme is “Our Heritage Proud and True: Culturama 52”.
Government officials were present at the launch ceremony including stakeholders, sponsors and cultural enthusiasts individuals. Swaine Evelyn, Culturama Committee Chairman addressed the launch ceremony and explained that this year committee is focusing on continuing the transformation process which was begun in the last year cultrama festival.
Evelyn expressed he felt grateful for the opportunity of serving as chairman for the second consecutive year. He further mentioned that this year’s festival is more about improvement and growth for the next upcoming years leading up to the festival’s 55th anniversary celebration in 2029. Moreover, Minister of Culture, Eric Evelyn also shared collaborative efforts of the committee on organizing the festival.
Eric Evelyn congratulated Francina Morton as her slogan was officially selected for this year’s festival and Bridget Hunkins was selected as the patron for Cultrama 52. Minister Evelyn shared that she deserves to be the patron for the event this year as she has served the culture and community for decades since 1974.
Additionally, the lineup of the Nevis Culturama was also announced in the launch ceremony. The festival will officially begin from 23 July at Nedacs Cultural Complex and on 24 and 26 July National Bank, Ms Culture Swimmer and Mr. Kool Contest and Republic Bank Mr & Miss Talented Youth Pageant will take place.
The Fringe activities are scheduled to take place across both months from 17 July to 3 August. During the two weeks festival, the attendees will get the opportunity to experience a night of poetry along with Bae watch, Culturama Poker Run, Culturama Track & Field games, Herbert’s Beach Affair and Bank of Nevis Ms Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant.
The Nevis Culturama 52 core activities have already started from June 12 and other exciting activities will take place including National Bank Culturama 52 Art, Craft & Food Fair, National Bank Soca Monarch Finals, Junior Calypso Monarch and Culturama 53 Grand Street Parade and Last Lap.
