Dr Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis has been applauded for his work as the chairperson of the Caribbean Community. The Secretary General of CARICOM, Carla Barnett spoke at the opening ceremony for the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM.
The Secretary General said that the tone for his tenure has been very active and productive. She acknowledged that the start of his tenure was marked by emergencies in the very first weekend of the year.
She applauded Dr Drew for his in person visits to the leaders of the CARICOM throughout the last few weeks is proof of his dedication to regional collaborations and unity. According to the Secretary General, the Prime Minister has shown that he has capacity for action and that he is willing to work for results within the organization.
SG Barnett further noted that she was impressed by the nation for their arrangement of the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM. She highlighted that St Kitts and Nevis is the smallest island nation in the region and yet they have done everything in their power to arrange an excellent meeting.
She took the opportunity to thank the Prime Minister and his team for the welcome which they accorded to the heads of the government in the region. The Secretary General has shared that she is confident that Dr Drew will work for the furthering of the regional interests of the Caribbean Community.
The 50th Regular Meeting will conclude on Friday, February 27 and is being hosted under the theme: “Beyond Words: Action Today for a Thriving, Sustainable CARICOM,”
The event welcomed regional leaders, international partners and diplomatic stakeholders. They discussed priority areas including economic resilience, climate action, regional solidarity, unity, food security, energy transition and much more.
The meeting will conclude with a press conference on Friday, led by Dr Terrance Drew and other leaders and stakeholders of the Caribbean Commmunity.
