A Calgary man named Ken Elliot is in hospital after being shot in Barbados while on vacation. Rodney Inniss, who is an acting inspector with the Royal Barbados Police Force, stated that 65-year-old Ken Elliott was shot during a scenario of attempted robbery on Saturday.
He said that two masked men entered a house began assaulting and attempted to rob the people in the house. He further added that there was a confrontation, and as a result, Ken Elliott received a gunshot which injured his left shoulder.
A security camera caught the entire incident pointed, which was pointed towards the entrance of the vacation rental. The Royal Barbados Police Force released the video from the security camera to the local media with a hope that it would help in finding the suspects.
Linda Brooks, Elliott’s wife was also present in the house when the masked men entered.
She said her sister-in-law had gone out to get a cigarette when the two men barged in. The Royal Barbados Police Force told that one man seemed to have a machete and the other had a handgun.
The video shows a short fight between Elliott and the suspected and the would-be robbers. After eight seconds of the fight, They shot Elliott in the left shoulder.
Brooks told that the bullet had entered Elliott’s shoulder, continued through his lung and got lodged in his spine.
She further added that he has been paralyzed from the clavicle down. This means that although Ken can use his arms, yet he is not able to walk.
Elliott was airlifted for treatment and taken to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Sunday, but it is still unclear that when he can return to Calgary.
Brooks said that Ken can not travel back just yet and that He still has a tube in his left lung. Also, the doctors have got to stabilize him, and they also would like to take the bullet out of Ken’s body as it would be needed for forensic evidence.
Brooks said Elliott might still need surgery in the coming days and it could be risky for him.
She said that the danger of taking the bullet out is that he might sustain more damage while doing so.
Also, leaving the bullet inside his body could lead to infection, which is also harmful for Ken.
The Police have said that the investigation is ongoing and even though no one has been taken into custody in the case yet still, they are taking the case very seriously as it involves guns and shooting.
