Three young athletes will represent St. Kitts and Nevis in the upcoming 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, USA. The tournament will take place from Wednesday August 5 to Sunday August 9, 2026 in the iconic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene.
The three athletes’ names are: Kayliah Jones, DeCheyenelle Thomas and TeJuan Webbe. The names of the athletes were shared by the St. Kitts and Nevis Athletics organisation. They explained that the selection of the athletes for the tournament was based on their performance throughout the season.
The organisation stated that their selection reflects their hardwork, dedication and perseverance towards their sports career. They further mentioned that by competing in the tournament athletes gain valuable experience against the world’ s elite junior talent. The SKN Athletics also shared that it also boosts the confidence of the athletes to perform on the international stage in future and inspire other young athletes in the federation.
Kayliah Jones will compete in the 400m event, DeCheynelle Thomas will participate in 200m & 400m and Tejuan Webbe will take part in the 110m Hurdles event. The SKN organization wished them best of luck along with safe travels. The organization said, “As they wear the national colours with pride, we extend our best wishes to the team for safe travels and outstanding performances”.
Notably, this year the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships is marking its 21th edition. The championship is organized by the World Athletics and this year more than 150 countries will compete against each other in 45 track & field events. Out of this number, there will be 22 men’s and 22 women’s events and 1 mixed relay (4x100m) events.
Additionally, the mixed relay event is a new addition in the history of the World Athletics U20 Championships. This year, more than 1,700 athletes will participate in the championship.
Notably, last year the championship took place at Lima, Peru from August 27 to 31.
