SpaceX is gearing up to send email updates to interested customers, recruiting them to test out the company’s satellite internet service.
The company’s website for Starlink is now updated with an email newsletter, which will send out news and promotions related to the company’s new satellite broadband network.
After someone signs up with their email address and zip code, SpaceX says that it may send them future messages related to the upcoming beta tests.
The message says that private beta testing is expected to start later this summer, which will be then followed by the public beta testing, starting with higher latitudes.
The message added that if someone provides the company with their zip code, they will be notified via an email if beta testing opportunities become available in their area.
SpaceX has updated the company’s website after it launched another 58 Starlink satellites into orbit this past weekend.
Starlink’s goal is to send thousands of low-orbiting satellites, which will provide high-speed internet across the planet.
However, the first wave of satellites would only serve the geographic regions which are located in the “higher latitudes” such as Seattle and Germany, according to past tweets from Elon Musk, the CEO of Space X who expects the public beta tests to begin at a time around October.
Although Starlink is all set to be launched commercially in the Northern United States and Canada later this year, the company has promised a huge rollout in 2021 that will bring coverage to most of the planet.
According to SpaceX, the download speeds would reach up to 1Gbps, and the latency would range between 25 to 35 milliseconds, which will be on par with ground-based broadband services.
However, the FCC is demanding that the company should prove that the latency is actually that low for receiving federal funding.
How much this service would cost remains unknown at this point.
