The St. Kitts Tourism Authority (SKTA) team recently experienced the Bespoke First Light Hike firsthand as a team. The highlight of the experience comes in the fact that the tourism stakeholders did not take the hike as observers but as participants.
The aim of this exercise was to understand the destination from the perspective of the travellers who come to the island. The hikes have been a very important part of the country’s tourism offerings. Notably, the tourists come to the island to experience the hikes and the sunrises from the top of the island.
The organisation has shared that these initiatives are that as part of SKTA commitment to authentic storytelling, the authorities have shared that it reflects a core principle at SKTA.
The officials have shared that the tourism stakeholders should have personal experiences that can make them knowledgeable about the destinations that they are showcasing. The team should have an understanding of the places that the tourists are visiting in their own perspective.
The tourism authority has shared a statement to this effect on their social media, highlighting the importance of the hike as well as the organisation’s commitment to delivering the best tourism experience.
“Our team shouldn’t have to describe our destination’s experiences from a brochure alone. By actually experiencing Bespoke First Light, the early morning hours, the changing light, and the history of the area, our team returns with insights that no secondhand description can capture,” the SKTA said.
The hike initiative also strengthens SKTA’s stakeholder relationships.
“Spending time alongside the operators behind experiences like this, builds trust and transforms a business relationship into a genuine partnership.”
SKTA said this is the standard that they are building toward. The organisation said that they are working towards a team that markets the destination from having experienced it, walked the path, and connected with the people who bring these experiences to life.
