Basseterre: The opposition St Kitts and Nevis Labour party accused the government of creating an infringed environment for major employers. The opposition said they made an environment where major employers within the Federation feel empowered to violate employee’s rights by forcing them to take a vaccine they would not intentionally have taken for fear of losing their jobs and being unable to provide for their families.
An official representative of Ross University stated their internal counsel had received confirmation from local counsel here in St. Kitts, who confirmed that they could terminate an employee who refuses to take the vaccine. The representative stated that their counsel stated that the only exception would be if medical issues prevent them from doing so.
SKNLP said the Prime Minister, in one of his presentations, boldly encouraged “every employer not just to say, but to insist, that every employee MUST be vaccinated”. He openly sanctioned discrimination, segregation and attempted to revoke one of the basic human rights of each citizen, a huge step backwards for democracy within our Federation.
The party added that these major employers have chosen to take away hardworking employees “bread and butter” by choosing to terminate all employees who choose not to take the jab, instead of enforcing the option of adhering to the non-pharmaceutical COVID-19 protocols.
