The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew addressed the people of the federation during his appearance at the Issues SKN Radio Show of Freedom FM. The radio show appearance, much like his appearance with the members of the media during the Prime Minister’s Press Conference, is monthly in its nature.
During the may edition of his appearance at Freedom FM’s Issues SKN, he spoke to the host and the people of ST Kitts and Nevis about various issues of importance. He opened his remarks at the event with the discussion of the REAP Initiative, an agriculture insurance programme.
He highlighted that the government of St Kitts and Nevis, with the Ministry of Agriculture have invested 1 Million Dollars to insure all of the registered persons who are in the agriculture sector. He highlighted that this programme covers Hurricanes, storms and droughts by the means of natural calamities.
The launch of this event was hosted on Tuesday, just hours before the Prime Minister’s appearance at the Freedom FM. The Prime Minister has shared that this programme is historic and unique as this provides support and protection to the farmers in the country.
Later, during the same interview, Dr Drew also talked about the Greenhouse Village which is under development in the country. This greenhouse village project is another very important development within the agriculture sector and will improve food security within the country
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis also shared recent updates regarding the developments at the Basseterre High School. Dr Drew announced that the work is actively ongoing on the site of the high school.
During his opening remarks at Issues SKN, Dr Drew said that the company which is working on the construction of the Basseterre High School, is registered in St Kitts and Nevis. He highlighted that this is a locally owned and locally registered company. He also clarified some misconceptions going around regarding flow of funds to Barbados.
Dr Terrance Drew said that the company is using a new type of technology to build the foundational aspects of the school.
After construction of these foundational aspects. they will then be shipped into St. Kitts and Nevis to be placed to start the full construction. He also announced that several people will be hired in St Kitts and Nevis to work on the construction process.
Local population is already under employment with earthwork, the handling of heavy equipment, the maintenance, the security of the school site.
The Prime Minister also asserted that they wanted to finish the work of the Basseterre High School quickly and efficiently. This is why, they utilized the method of getting some of the work done in St Kitts and Nevis and the rest of the work in Basseterre.
He also said that they are expecting to see the completion of the Bassseterre High School within the next 18 to 24 months.
Dr Drew also spoke about the Youth Economic Empowerment Bureau which is expected to bring business and economic opportunity to the youngsters of the country.
