The Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Terrance Drew announced that they will be making an extra payment of one month’s salary. The payment is popularly known as the double salary. The people of the island had been looking forward to the double salary payment. 

The government has shared that as they progress towards the year coming to a close. They want to honor and appreciate the people for their dedication and service. The payment of the double salary is the government’s effort to extend Christmas greetings to the nationals. 

The officials have shared that the extra salary will  be given out to civil servants and the government auxiliary employees, pensioners. The STEP workers who have been working with the federal government and Nevis Island Administration will also be eligible for the double salary payment.

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis has shared that he is grateful for the work that the people of the country have put in throughout the year. The additional payment of the salary will be issued on Friday  December 19. The Prime Minister’s announcement drew massive applause from the members of the national assembly. 

Additionally, the Prime Minister highlighted that the people who have worked for the country all year must be given the acknowledgement for their work. 

The Prime Minister however has confirmed that the Ministers of Government and Government Advisors will be excluded from the payment of double salary. The Prime Minister said that the exclusion of government ministers and government advisors is in line with their commitment to exercising fiscal discipline. 

The officials have shared that it is important for the people of the island to feel valued as they move into the next year. The officials have shared that the double salary announcement is part of the country’s inclusive budget which has been priotitizing the people of the island and has been working and investing the people of the island.
